About Terrain Mapping & Modeling:
Recently we have been working with new functionality in our flight control systems which allows us to capture and create 3D models from the air.
Using our own surveying aircraft, the DJI Phantom 3 Advanced, VHD Flying Camera can quickly and accurately carry out your orthography and 3D modeling for you, wherever and whenever.
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV’s) provide a rapid, cost effective alternative to traditional aerial acquisition techniques, and are ideal for detailed, accurate data collection of small areas of interest (<5sqkm), mapping of specific features, or repeat surveys for monitoring ongoing projects.

How does it work?
The DJI Phantom 3 Advanced is pre-programmed with the flight pattern that is to be flown. During the flight high resolution aerial photographs are taken of the terrain. These photographs are processed into an orthographic photograph which portrays a faithful image of the terrain.
The DJI Phantom 3 Advanced can easily be used when the terrain is only passable with difficulty, where conventional surveying is not possible.
3D model-based stitching
VHD Flying Camera use the most cutting-edge methods available for creating our maps. Combining multiple looks at an area as an aircraft flies over allows us to create a 3D model from which can derive stunningly accurate orthophoto maps. The textured 3D model can be downloaded and previewed online.
Georeferencing is what aligns your images to known points on the ground. It is not required, but with a few clicks VHD Flying Camera can accurately reference your map and use it as an overlay is many GIS systems or Google Earth.
Stockpile Volume Measurement
VHD Flying Camera web-based volume measurements make measuring and tracking stockpile volumes quick and easy. Volumetric measurements are easily shared with others and are stored to track progress over time.
Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) Processing
The normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) is a simple graphical indicator that can be used to analyze remote sensing measurements and assess whether the target being observed contains healthy vegetation or not.
Multiple georeferenced visits to the same mapping site can be combined.
VHD Flying Camera can build and quickly show a history for every point on the map. This feature is especially useful for construction monitoring, agriculture, pipeline documentation and solar array inspection.

The DJI Phantom 3 Advanced can be used for various purposes and applications. Flights to capture (3D) models which can be used for 3D designs and for quantity surveying. In addition, the DJI Phantom 3 Advanced is suitable for, amongst other things, monitoring construction, updating topographic management maps, taking aerial photographs and recording the situation in the event of disasters.
